Sunday 13th July - SNO!zone, Milton Keynes
We went up and did some testing on Saturday and made a good wax choice. Martin hit the ground running on Sunday morning and held the fastest qualifying run time for most of the morning session, but slipped to third towards the end of qualification.
Martin skied confidently and won each of his heats. The semi's went the same way with Martin hitting the final jump at full tilt - clearing the down ramp and landing just before the finish line.
In the final Martin was up against a Europa racer and 2 other accomplished skiers. We have been working hard on his starts as well as his core strength and it showed in the pace he got out of the start gates.
It was tight over the first three rollers but Martin got a great line and commanded the race to the line.
In the super final ( winners from all age catagories ) Martin had the outside lane and was up against the winner of the senior final. It was always going to be about the start, and Martin got a blinder, they skied together over the three rollers and jumped the first two small jumps together but Martin beat him to the first corner and once in tuck held his line beautifully all the way to the final jump.
With the older skier still breathing down his neck Martin had to hit the last obstacle at full speed or lose the race, and flew over the finish line in dramatic style - 1st place.
A good result for Martin and the sponsor - D3o, as they sponsored both the event and the outright winner.
